Leadership in Medicine

Tomorrow (Saturday, November 7), FMD Scientific Director Alfonso Molina will hold a course for health sector operators who for professional reasons and/or cultural interest wish to hone their competences in medical leadership. The lesson on “Harmony between Internal and Organisational Development. The Personal Ecosystem Canvas” is part of the specialization course in Leadership in Medicine, organised by the Advanced School of Economics and Mnaagement of Health Systems at the Rome Sacred Heart Catholic University.

The lesson includes both individual and group activities after an initial presentation. The main part of the lesson focuses on the concept of “personal ecosystem” and uses the Personal Ecosystem Canvas (PEC) learning tool developed by Prof. Molina.

The PEC is a tool to investigate one’s own personal ecosystem and align it with one’s social and professional sphere. Personal ecosystems, which are multidimensional, dynamic, evolving and complex, include all the aspects that influence the life of a person and are fundamental for one’s social and professional fulfilment.

The PEC is a self-reflection tool on our internal (mental and bodily) and external aspects (possessions, relations, organisation, infrastructure, culture and tendencies) that often contain many further subcategories. All of these elements are analysed in great detail through the completion of a questionnaire and the real-time visualization of results “photographs” the user’s current situation and short-term projection. Users are guided to unite different parts of the analysis through a pitch.

The holistic nature of the PEC allows it to be applied to a wide range of contexts (professional, university, school) to increase the awareness of the complexity and dynamic propensity towards change exhibited by individuals, groups and organisations. The PEC is an extremely efficient tool for education on team building, leadership, educational and professional orientation, and enterprise.
