Knowledge Volunteers

There are over 40,000 volunteers of all ages and nationalities in the Network of Knowledge Volunteers that developed thanks to the Grandparents on the Internet experience, the digital literacy project for elders based on the intergenerational learning model.

 

The volunteers dedicate their time to introducing elders to digital tools and platforms, as well as social activities to improve the community in which they live

  • To fight social exclusion, isolation and the digital divide
  • To support the free exchange of experiences, knowledge and skills
  • To promote active lifestyles and full participation in life, also through e-Gov tools
  • To fight the NEET phenomenon and create new job opportunities

 

What they do

 

If they are students …

  • Tutors for digital literacy courses in schools (based on various declinations of Project Grandparents on the Internet)
  • Digital coordinators and coaches in elderly centre Internet Corners
  • Recycle company PCs in recycling labs to donate them to elderly centres
  • Virtual coordinators for learning and innovation communities (www.phyrtual.org)

 

If they are teachers …

  • Coordinate classroom activities, custom tailoring courses based on the elders’ skills
  • Train tutors in collaboration with FMD experts
  • Specialise in didactic activities for social innovation and the elderly

 

If they are adults or elders …

  • Peer tutors in elderly centres or volunteer associations
  • Provide skills and professional experience to support young men and women in search of employment and business ideas
