"With two million NEETs (young individuals who are "not in education, employment or training"), a school drop out rate above 18%, a low number of university graduates (20,3%) and the highest youth unemployment rate in the last decade, it is hard for Europeans to believe that Italy is investing on its youth. On top of this, these critical issues that have become true emergencies come from afar and are rooted in past generations. 44.3% of adult Italians only has a middle school certification and only 5.7% participates in educational activities.
 
Thus, there is a firm bond between the education and wealth of the country as underlined by Professor Emeritus Tullio De Mauro, who first lead the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, a non-profit structure working to achieve an inclusive knowledge society.”
