Microsoft promotes the “Jobs of the Future Decoded” Event to reflect on the influence of computing and coding on the professional future of the new generations. The appointment is for tomorrow – January 20 – at the Brussels Microsoft Centre (Rue Montoyer 51).

Beatrice Viotti, a 19-year old graduate of the Liceo scientifico E. Fermi in Catanzaro, who is now studying Architecture, will speak at the event. Last year, Beatrice and classmates Irina Teti e Matteo Bonacci, and the help of their Art History teacher Anna Rita Gagliardi, participated in Project Meet No Neet, part of the global Microsoft YouthSpark programme, where they presented Up Calabria, a mobile application for “enriched tourism.”

“We produced a prototype of the application thanks to the help of our teachers, but we want to do more,” explains Beatrice. “We would like to present the app at tourism fairs and publicise it at cultural events. Calabria deserves to be known better. And we could even extend our historical-artistic map with other practical tools for tourists.”

“We want to develop a mobile guide for smartphones and tablets that will be constantly updated and which can be used to explore and learn more about Calabria’s most important places. We will begin with a multilingual interactive platform on museums and archaeological sites on the Ionic Coast of Calabria.”

The guide currently includes Squillace superiore and Ancient Scolacium, the “Grangia” in Montauro, Monasterace Superiore and Ancient Kaulon, Mammola and the Museum of Santa Barbara (MuSaBa).

In order to complete a definitive version of the app, the girls require specialized technical support. In order to obtain this, the students have begun a crowdfunding campaing on Phyrtual.org with Beatrice as the campaign testimonial. “My future? #itsuptome” was launched by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to support social innovation projects in schools.

The project proposed by the three young women is concrete. They want to transform the app into a start up. Tomorrow, in Brussels, Beatrice will explain what she has accomplished together with her friends.
