Remotely start a washing machine with an app, turn off the lights from your smartphone, regulate your heating with an SMS... Smart homes are an evolving reality, even in Italy, thanks to the diffusion of connected devices (IoT), a market worth €250 million. Thirty-eight percent of Italians already own at least one object connected to the Internet in their house.
The Smart Home Research conducted by the Internet of Things Observatory at the School of Management of the “Politecnico di Milano” has monitored over 370 solutions for intelligent houses, most of which can be configured independently. Often, however, users have no experience and must resort to specialized installers at an additional cost. However, this was certainly not a problem for the students involved in Project "IoT at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym” promoted with Cisco.
Project activities continue with educational courses that introduce young men and women to the full potential of the web to connect individuals, infrastructure, objects, processes and data.

In two and a half years, Project IoT at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym has involved 20,000 high school students and allowed them to experientially acquire competences and knowledge that they will be able to use to explore new professional opportunities provided by the interconnected world and move confidently on the job market.
