IoT: Ideas from Hertz

"We strive to stimulate students to use the technology they learn about at school and apply it to ideas that can help everyday activities. And this seemed like the right place to develop these ideas.”

On March 29, Francesco De Vincenzi, Professor of Technology and Software Design, at IIS H. Hertz in Rome, chaperoned four student groups to the hackathon organised by Project IoT at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym [see news: Live Hackathon].

Two teams - Durtz and Thertz – were selected to continue developing their ideas at Cisco [see news Ten Final Ideas].

Emanuele, Cristian, Marco and Giacomo from Team Durtz developed Project Bedkeeper, a smart bed that can monitor patient conditions and communicate needs and emergencies.

Darius, Eduard, Matteo and Elis from Team Thertz, instead, worked on SOS, a computer system that manages the access of people to the subways. Each user accesses the subway with an electronic bracelet which allows the system to calculate how many people have entered to optimise train stops and services.

The challenge amongst students is part of Project IoT at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym promoted with Cisco.
