Intergenerational Como

The Como Grandparents on the Internet Project was presented yesterday in Como. Simona Saladini, Provincial Councilor for Social Services, Health and Equal Opportunities began by mentioning the 1st Provincial Report on local social policies, published by the Province Council for Social Services, Health and Equal Opportunities.

“Over 26% of the provincial residents are elders and this percentage is even higher in some of the local valleys. This data gives you an idea of how perfectly this project suits our territory. I am very pleased to contribute to this initiative," said the councilor.

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale in collaboration with the Province of Como, the Como Chamber of Commerce and the Como School Department promote the Como Grandparents on the Internet Project. The FMD has exported is intergenerational learning model to 13 Italian Regions and 9 European countries.

“This project provides an important opportunity not only for elders, but for students, too. I love the 'knowledge volunteers’ terms,” says Fulvio Alvisi, Vice-President of the Como Chamber of Commerce. “Learning to use technology, teaching it to elders and exploiting the social dynamics that accompany this relation is a winning idea. We have always promoted socially valuable projects to improve local entrepreneurship.”

Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, underlined the educational value of the project for students and invited the project protagonists to participate in the international Knowledge Volunteers competition.
