Lara Forgione, a coach for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, takes teaching to play very seriously. Indeed, during periods of crisis, especially due to the health emergency, the videogame market flourishes. In Italy, it’s a market worth nearly 1.78 billion euro. And the sales of on-line videogames have increased by 13.5% for a turnover of 1127 billion euro. According to the annual report produced by Iidea (ex Aesvi), there are 17 million Italian gamers: 39% of the population aged 6-64; 53% are men, 47% women; and there is a net increase in the youngest brackets (11-24). Games are prevalently played on smartphones and tablets.
In Ambizione Italia for Schools labs, Lara doesn’t teach participants how to play, but how to design and develop videogames. The first step is to learn to use Unity, a multi-platform graphics engine developed by Unity Technologies that allows the development of 3D videogames and interactive content in real-time. This includes architectural views, three-dimensional environments and animations.
Unity is the most commonly used engine both by freelance, independent developers and software houses and studios. There is a basic free version of the software that provides many features for videogame development for Android e iPhone systems. And it’s a tool for training artificial intelligence.
