After a period characterized by a strong emigration, the Regione Abruzzo has become an immigration area with foreign communities even in small municipalities, a stronger growth rate respect to the rest of Italy and a consolidated stabilization process. The municipalities with the greatest population of foreigners include L’Aquila (7.82%), while San Pio Delle Camere (700 residents total) hosts one foreigner for every three residents.
The need to provide a concrete solution to the changing social and organization asset of the Province of L’Aquila has been addressed by Project “Più – Offices for Integration,” a project co-financed by the European Union (EIF, Action 9 “Capacity Building”) / Year 2013) to train and update public and private agencies, but also to experiment innovative services for the local immigrant population. The project results will be presented today at the L’Aquila Town Hall.
