"My OSU went very well. We had fun and they learned a lot about new issues, as well as liking the idea of a peer as a teacher,” explains Matteo.

"I had a lot of fun and discovered that I like to teach! I am very happy that I participated and think that the course was an excellent opportunity to share views with my peers and learn to speak in public. Moreover, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that I often received suggestions that we were able to enact. This means that they followed my explanations, and this is extremely gratifying,” reveals Ilaria.

Ilaria Ceccacci and Matteo Nardella, young Digital Ambassadors for European Project Make:Learn:Share:Europe, attend the Liceo Scientifico Vito Volterra in Ciampino. They were supervised by “Super” professor Massimo Pescatori, who enthusiastically stimulated and proposed initiatives to his students.

Ilaria and Matteo, who have just ended their Open School Units, both developed excellent programmes. Ilaria created a five-module course entitled “Building Apps, Webpages and a Mood Lamp with Arduino." The first part of the course introduced her schoolmates to programming and the creation of software applications, while the second focused on HTML coding and visual programming with APP Inventor. The course ended with the construction of an Arduino atmosphere lamp.

Matteo proposed a course on “HTML, C++, Arduino and ShotCut” based on coding in C, HTML and C ++. The programme consisted of 14 modules and ended with practical sessions using Arduino and ShotCut for video editing.

Illaria and Matteo presented two different, opposite and complementary, methods. One was based on visual block programming, while the other addressed true coding. However, they both had the same objective: software development.

Now, a special summer has begun for both of them. Ilaria, a young scientist, is attending the hi-tech "BioMaking Summer School" at the FMD’s Phyrtual Innovation Gym to experiment with innovative genetic techniques [see news: Learning about DNA].

Matteo is putting together all the material produced for his Open School Units and taking a week off in Naples. Before starting his second year of high school, he is going to delve into one of his favourite hobbies: computers and videogames.

Have a great summer!
