The Fondazione Mondo Digitale Phyrtual Innovation Gym will host students from around Italy competing for the Olympic Problem Solving Title.
The seventh edition of this event promoted by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research involves 63 primary and secondary school teams competing on computer science and logic.
The Problem Solving Olympics – Computer Science and Algorithms in School begin tomorrow – May 30 – at 10:00 am at Via del Quadraro 102.
Following a preliminary phase that included about 2000 teams from schools throughout Italy, the winners of the regional rounds will compete for the national title.
The initiative, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, aims to promote the development of problem solving abilities in young men and women, exploit the excellence present in schools and promote the diffusion of computer science as a scientific discipline and tool for conceptual education.
The competitions will be held at the Istituto comprensivo Viale dei Consoli 16 and at the Fondazione Mondo Digitale’s Phyrtual Innovation Gym in the areas dedicated to experiential learning and digital and soft skills that are fundamental for life and work in the 21st century.
The aim of the event is to align education and training to the new needs of the labour market, providing students with educational tracks that develop digital and transversal skills, as well as raising the awareness of young men and women on the importance of computer science as a conceptual model for solving problems in any field. The 63 finalist teams will have 90 minutes to solve problems of increasing complexity in a range of subjects.
Speakers at the event include Edvige Mastantuono, MIUR School Curricula Department and Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy, University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director, Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
