Holographic Effects

How can we attract new generations to scientific subjects? How can we mould scientific rigour with creativity?

This is the challenge accepted by European Project Holomakers, which will field a series of strategic actions to reinforce the professional competences of educators and design innovative and interactive learning experiences for STEAM subjects.

The first project workshop, held last week in Athens, addressed holographic techniques (Feb. 26 – March 2). Matteo Viscogliosi, designer, maker and coach at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym, and Alex Fanelli, a student at the “Accademia Albertina delle Belle Arti” in Turin participated on behalf of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

The participants in the first training session (two for each partner) were introduced to the scientific foundations of holography and learned how to produce digital holograms with open source software Octave. They also looked at the differences between holography, augmented reality and virtual reality. The final part of the course addressed the development of educational projects for schools.
