High Connectivity

At the “Imagine Possible” event organised by Ericsson, the Fondazione Lars Magnus Ericsson and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale presented ”5GBOT,” a project to introduce the new generations to scientific subjects and the new skills and professional profiles required by the job market.

5GBOT addresses university students and high school students on PCTO (Soft Skills and Orientation Programme) in Genoa, Pisa and Pagani, where Ericsson has R&D centres in Italy, who will enjoy courses on the development of robotic applications and high-connectivity AI. The prototypes will be presented at RomeCup 2022, the educational robotics event promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, which will be held on April 27-29.

Researchers in the three R&D centres (Genoa, Pisa, Pagani) and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale team will act as mentors, providing the students with their know-how to help them develop the projects.

Moreover, the project focuses on inclusion and diversity: the participation of women and female leadership is encouraged in the teams. In this way, technology can become a means for levelling inequalities and removing gender and ability labels.

Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, commented: “All the emerging professions will require high connectivity according to LinkedIn. Together with the Fondazione Lars Magnus Ericsson, we have invested in creativity and projects for young men and women to drive a connected, innovative and sustainable society that will employ enabling technology to accelerate the process of economic participation and social inclusion, thereby increasing the competitivity of our enterprises. However, we are also experimenting how greater connectivity can improve didactic activities and make learning more interesting.”

Cesare Avenia, President of the Fondazione Lars Magnus Ericsson, declared: “We have been pursuing a profound synergy and collaboration with universities, enterprises and the institutions for years to promote innovation in our country, promote the development of strategic ICT skills and promoting digital transformation through the ideas of young men and women. The promotion of young talent is fundamental to support the business ideas the fuel the innovation ecosystem in our country and contribute to the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives.”
