In the Abruzzi, four classes are at work on the project in Raiano, in the Province of L’Aquila and in Teramo. Today, we will stop at the Istituto comprensivo Umberto Postiglione to interview Principal Renzina Ciocca who has enthusiastically decided to participate in the special edition of Safer Internet Day, promoted by Microsoft and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in collaboration with the Italian Postal Police to [see new Safer Internet Day 2016].

Francesca Meini interviewed the Principal on why it’s necessary to have responsible adults around young men and women and educate them to a safe and aware use of technology, which is fundamental for didactics, too.

The four classes (1A, 1B, 2A and 2B) are working on two issues: pedophilia and cyber-bullying. Here is their advice:

ONLINE PEDOPHILIA

  • Never give your personal details or phone number in chats and role-play games.
  • If an adult contacts you, proposes a meeting and tells you to keep it secret, or if he molests or threatens you, immediately speak to your parents or teachers.
  • Don’t send photos or videos of you and your friends to strangers.
  • Never reveal where you are.

CYBER-BULLYING

  • If you are a victim of cyber-bullying, react, but think! Report those who hurt you and speak to an adult whom you trust.
  • Say NO to cyber-bullying: don’t keep it all inside; speak about it with someone who can help you. You are not alone!
  • When you are attacked on-line, keep calm! Ignore insults, control your anger and don’t allow the situation to deteriorate.
  • If you are insulted on-line, ignore it. Use your self-esteem as a shield.
  • If you are insulted on-line, ignore them. Don’t stoop to their level.
  • Say NO to cyber-bullying with a click: block or report those who attack you.

We would also like to remind all teachers working bullying and cyber-bullying issues of the Sonet-Bull Platform, which provides a rich trove of didactic material to understand the phenomenon and its causes, a forum and a network of actors developing collaborative strategies to contrast the phenomenon, especially at school.

Register on the platform and share your bullying stories and experiences to fuel the debate on this often overlook phenomenon.
