Healthy Communications

The pandemic has amplified the phenomenon of misinformation. Fake news on Covid-19 have reached millions of users around the world. The NewsGuard News Centre has identified 546 websites that spread disinformation on Covid-19 in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany and Italy.

The infodemic, the excess of unchecked information, increases confusion and uncertainty, while the emergency calls for clear and precise indications. This need also emerged from a study conducted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, with the support of the Department of Political Economics and Statistics at the University of Siena on 4000 students (aged 14-19): 78% of students demanded greater clarity and attention, as they consider correct communication fundamental to overcome the emergency.

The collaboration with Janssen Italia on Factor J also involves teachers in healthy communication to learn to recognise fake news, especially in medical and scientific fields. On Wednesday, February 16, there will be a one-hour session on tools that can be used to orient oneself in the information surcharge and how to identify quality information on reliable sites.

To participate in educational events, you must first register on the distance learning platform of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, developed with Moodle (an open-source learning environment).
