Docufilm: “Vaccines. 9 Lessons from Science”

Rome, Feb. 5, 2020 – 3:00 pm

Viale Cristoforo Colombo 212, Sala Tevere

Agenda

Amongst all the fake news circulating on-line, those about health continue to receive the most attention. In 2019, according to an NBC News analysis, viral disinformation addressed tumours, inexistent cures and vaccines. Some of the articles had thousands of views and shares, around the world.

“A Health Premiere” will be held today February 5 (3 pm) at the Regione Lazio, as one of the initiatives organised by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to promote and educate the younger generations on the importance not only of prevention, but also of correct information and scientific communication, over all social fads and fake news.

The event, which is organised in collaboration with the Regione Lazio Councillorship for Health and Social Integration, is part of Project Viral but Healthy promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the non-conditioning support of MSD Italia. The project has already involved 50 students on the development of new apps, technological solutions and communications campaigns for the prevention of common diseases.

The winning idea was Super Freddie, a remake of the famous Nintendo videogame, a vaccinated hero who must defeat viruses and bacteria. The students developed a demo version to share with their peers in Italian schools and through a communications campaign.

In a context that is “overcharged” with information and media exposure, how can we help the younger generations to correctly interpret the news and develop critical thought? One hundred high school students have been invited to the premiere of Vaccini. 9 lezioni di scienza, a docufilm by Elisabetta Sgarbi on the history and development of vaccines, along with important scientists, doctors and philosophers. Besides the director, speakers include Alessandra Barca, Regione Lazio Health Promotion and Prevention Manager; Nicoletta Luppi, Managing Director, MSD Italia, and Alfonso Molina, Personal Chair in Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. Regione Lazio Councillor for Health and Social Integration Alessio D’Amato ha salso been invited.
