The Goethe-Institut in Rome, Biblioteche di Roma and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale are implementing a pilot experience in the Rome “Fabriozio Giovenale” Library in the Casale Podere Rosa [see news: Fab Lab at the Library].
The area is open to all citizens - from primary school children to families – and also involves professionals and residents in dedicated lab activities. In Germany, libraries and museums were transformed into hands-on areas many years ago, allowing users to experience and learn how to use digital manufacturing tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters, transforming them from consumers into active protagonists and creators.
“BiblioMakers, the Idea Factory” will be a new innovation centre in Rome, extending the reach of technology into traditional cultural areas. This six-month pilot experience, which will be conducted at the Fabrizio Giovenale Library in Rome, will be replicated in other libraries and public areas.
In the video, Christina Hasenau, Director of the Goethe Institute Information Centre in Rome, explains why they decided to invest in the project.
