IIS di Rossano, in the Province of Cosenza, is one of the 30 schools participating in the project on “Active Ageing and Solidarity Amongst Generations through Learning and Social Innovation” (2013-2015). The project is supported by the “Prize of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity Amongst Generations" (Italian Government /Family Policies). The project involves 30 high schools and 30 elderly centres in six Italian southern regions: Basilicata, Campania, Calabria, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily.
Elders and youngsters are involved in volunteering activities that will help them acquire life skills through virtuous intergenerational exchange and collaboration. The project provides activities for over 3300 students, teachers, policy makers and social innovation, who have to find concrete solutions to improve the area in which they live. In particular, the project includes experiential and intergenerational training on:
- computers, the Internet and new technology
- social networks
- social planning
At the Rome Campidoglio, during the Awards Ceremony for the 5the edition of the Knowledge Volunteers Competition, Rosy D’Elia interviewed some of the participants who explain Project "Calabria Yesterday and Today."
