Green skills are on the rise

Green skills are on the rise

And with Prodigy, they are also going digital to prepare young people for the jobs of the future

2025 is the year of the green jobs revival. According to LinkedIn's latest Global Green Skills Report, those with environmental skills are almost twice as likely to find work as those with traditional profiles (8% versus 4.3%) . In Italy, one in five hires (18.6%) are for roles related to sustainability, and demand for “green” talent is growing by 3.7%, particularly in the areas of sustainable business, environmental resource protection and sustainability strategy.

Among the emerging skills, those related to artificial intelligence also stand out: the report records a 517% growth in “Responsible AI”, a sign of a new global focus on transparent, fair and ethical technologies. AI Engineering, Machine Learning and Data Analysis are now becoming fundamental levers for the ecological transition, from energy efficiency to sustainable resource management.

It is in this context that PROmoting Digital and Green Skills for Youth was created, with a training programme designed to develop integrated green and digital skills and guide young people towards new jobs in sustainability. Through hybrid courses and practical workshops, Prodigy trains profiles capable of designing social and environmental innovation.

‘The green transition is not only environmental, but also cultural and technological,’ explains project manager Annaleda Mazzuccato. ‘New skills are needed to put sustainability into practice in schools, businesses and communities.’

Prodigy's objectives

PRODIGY (acronym for PROmoting Digital and Green Skills for Youth) is an innovative European project for professional growth and qualification, funded under ESF+ Social Innovation+. The main target group is young NEETs (those who are not in education, employment or training).

The central objective of PRODIGY is to transfer and disseminate innovative solutions to address social challenges in the areas of employment, education, skills and social inclusion. In particular, the project aims to improve the job opportunities and civic engagement of 240 young people in Italy (involving cities such as Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria and Naples), Greece and Bulgaria. The project aims to build a more equitable and inclusive society by developing digital and sustainability skills and promoting the personal and professional growth of young NEETs.

The project is being implemented thanks to an international partnership that includes Fondazione L'Albero della Vita ETS (lead partner), Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS, Adecco Italia spa and Roma Tre University, together with European partners ActionAid Hellas (Greece) and Partners Bulgaria Foundation (Bulgaria).
