In Aosta, just as in 30 other Italian cities involved in Project Grandparents On-line - Everyone’s Young at the Post Office, lessons begin again after the Easter break.
At the Aosta Istituto Manzetti, grandparents meet every Friday from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. It is a heterogeneous group of elders, both in terms of ages and professions. In fact, the youngest is 66, while the eldest is 80. In terms of professions, Adriana was a cook, Lorenza a mailwoman, and Pietro Giuseppe a carpenter, just to mention a few.
Now that they have completed half of the programme, they have all experienced the satisfaction of sending their first e-mail, have looked for their old friends on Facebook and have contacted relatives around the world.
They share everything with the student-tutors: classrooms, class bells and vacations. It’s a taste of the past, returning to school for the grandparents, that evokes many old memories.
One elder student, interviewed by his tutor, describes how they used to play when he was in school. During the winter, they played in town and in the summer moved to the beach. “We had fun with little.”
