Good News from Schools

Yet another success for schools that strive to improve their local environment from electronic applications to simplify people’s lives to social projects to protect the most fragile categories and create a sense of community.

Itis E. Mattei in Isernia reached a series of important results during the school year that has just ended:
   Award at the national competition “Best Electronic Creation” – Città Sant’Angelo (Special Prize for Schools and three individual prizes for students);
   Three project received awards and funding through Programme “Meet No Neet” (FMD, Microsoft, Roma Capitale);
   Special mention for the project presented at “Young and Adult Investors Grow” – Italian Ministry of Economic Development

And now, there is the double victory in the “Intel® Galileo Italy School Contest 2014.” This competition aimed to unearth new ideas to design with the Intel® Galileo, the new Arduino-compatible Intel chipset designed for the education sector and the Maker Community.

Students in Class 4B, together with the support of Prof. Nicola De Crescenzo, developed two projects: Helpedgal and Galileo Protect.

The first project is designed to ensure the safety of pedestrians (including individuals with sight impairments) thanks to an intelligent crossing system completely controlled by Galileo.

The second project exploits the full potential of the Galileo chipset to create a sensor system capable of detecting gas water leaks. The device was designed to help elders living along and individuals with mental disorders, the two categories that are most affected by this type of accidents.

These students are developing a good social sensibility and have understood that new technologies can be an extraordinary tool for promoting inclusion. They also designed the “Mobile Home” Project and financed it via a crowdfunding campaign on Phyrtual.org.
