Gender Inequality

"Together we can shift the narrative around Gender Equality!" This is the challenge launched by Seline Keating from Dublin City University (project lead partner) on her Twitter profile at the end of the #GEM2021 On-line Conference (Feb. 11-12), the final meeting for European Project Gender Equality Matters, implemented in partnership by the Fondazione Mondo DigitaleSocial Action and Innovation Center (KMOP), Group of Research in Educational Technology (GITE) at the University of Murcia and the European School Heads Association (ESHA).

The conference provided an important opportunity for reflection on the project results in various European countries (Greece, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Netherlands), where nearly 20,000 teachers were involved in informational and educational activities. This is a concrete answer to the needs of the school community that is responsible for transmitting or challenging behaviour and expectations related to gender stereotypes.

“The conference confirmed the positive results of the European exchange of practices and the partnership between academia, third sector and schools. The collaboration between these sectors gave rise to a project that has created synergies and develop strategies and tools that can be used by educators in all contexts: practical classroom activities, textbooks and activities to learn about gender identity and make participants aware of the conditioning hidden by stereotypes. Research meets with training centres and becomes a tool to drive change in school and family contexts,” explains Project Manager Annaleda Mazzucato, who coordinated the Project in Italy. “The sensation is that there is a new understanding by everyone involved in schools, a greater awareness of the need to educate and provide adequate tools, to speak about it, face the discussion on gender identity, break stereotypes to perceive oneself and others without discrimination or conditioning.”

We would like to share with our community a digest of the speakers and two efficient infographics created by Facilitator Maia Thomas.
