The Garage Fairy

The Garage Fairy

Gaia (10) and Antony (11) have no problems explaining the secrets of their projects. As a matter of fact, you will find the complete instructions on how to build a fairy robot at their stand. It’s a kind of open source project.
And their ability to transform abandoned objects into functional, animated gadgets really seems magical. The wand is truly held by Linda Giannini, a teacher who has always firmly believed in educational robotics. It’s a passion that she has been able to transmit to parents, too, and together they have developed “family format” creations. The mothers of Gaia and Antony proudly tell us about the fairy story that developed in their garage and the perfect working duo created by their children. Together, they discovered the advantages of cooperation.

From Antony’s “Robotics Manual”
Construction material for the Azzurrina Robot
Leds, light bulbs, electric wires, buttons, packaging, an aluminum base, wheels, an electric adapter, cardboard, colours, Velcro, glue and tools. It is all recycled material. Anything can be invented by using one’s imagination. This robot was inspired by Pinocchio’s fairy godmother, but we decided to transform her into something mechanical. So we started working. Gaia and I organized our project. We met on Saturday in my garage where everything we needed could be found. I was in charge of the electronics – control units, soldering wires, etc., while Gaia took care of painting, gluing, decorating and selecting the music for the robot.
