The “I Had an Idea!” experience on the Huffington Post
Starting from the ongoing debate on financial education at school on the Huffington Post, Mila Spicola, teacher, pedagogist and writer, clarifies the concept of self-entrepreneurship and presents her experience of “I Had an Idea!” that is using PCTO courses to test a pilot action for the empowerment of girls in disadvantaged areas in Southern Italy, looking for the "perfect storm" (female, young, from the South).
“There were multiple challenges and plans in designing this project: acting on both local and gender gaps related to professions and skills, working with predominantly female classes, implementing the project in areas with economic, cultural and social issues, using PCTOs as a container and developing a real pilot model of our idea of how and where to provide training for knowledge and skills. The first PCTO course, which has just ended, did not only address learning, but also a true experiential application. The girls, divided into groups, created 8 start-up ideas in Palermo and 4 in Naples, that are being presented and discussed as we speak and will ideally pass the baton to the next group and course. In October we will organize a symposium to discuss the first results. Is it the solution? I don't know, but it's a possibility, a real basis from which to start."
TEACHING FINANCIAL AND DIGITAL KNOWLEDGE AT SCHOOL IS POSSIBLE. WE DID IT.
We decided to use those courses as a test. So, the girls developed 8 start-up ideas in Palermo and 4 in Naples, which are being presented and discussed as we speak. Is this the solution? It is certainly a real basis from which to start.
