Educating to Work

The fourth edition of CS First does not only involve professors, but also parents, as STEM curricula reveal a profound gender gap: only 16% of students are women, as opposed to il 34% of men, as illustrated by the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2021.

Education, both at home and at school, is fundamental to allow young women to become protagonists of the future labour market. The project employs focus groups and a national survey (2200 parents) to develop a strategy for introduce families to the new developments of the digital economy and orient young women towards academic careers in scientific subjects, overcoming commonplaces and stereotypes on “male careers.”

The national survey will investigate parents’ attitude towards jobs in scientific sectors. The objective is to help families overcome false myths on studies, professions and careers, and better understand how the labour market is changing and better orient the new generations.

We ask that the parents of young men and women, aged 11-18, participate in the survey.
