Coding Girls Stories

In less than a month’s time, the educational marathon will begin for the sixth edition of Coding Girls ... [see news: Coding is Freedom]. In the build-up to the event, we will introduce you to the young women who have participated in the many editions of Coding Girls and keep the relay going!

Yesterday, at the press conference at the American Embassy in Rome, we interviewed Aurora Pani, one of the first young women who has been programming her future. Aurora is now 21 and has been participating in Coding Girls for four years. The programme allowed her to discover a true passion. She now studies Computer Science at university and is about to graduate.

At home, thanks to a mother who works as a programmer and a “horrible” old computer, Aurora began playing with code and never quit. “If you make a mistake, try solving it yourself. Don’t call me immediately,” her mother would say. And that advice came in handy with her students: young girls in primary school. "Being called Teacher is a great satisfaction!"

Together with her classmates, Aurora organised a digital café open to everyone at her school, the Liceo Peano in Monterondo. And thanks to her experience as a coach, she decided to enrol at Sapienza University of Rome to study computer science. “Out of 300 freshmen, only 10 are women!"

"Coding is not just studying or working,” confesses Aurora. "It’s pure fun!”
