As of yesterday, the Coding Girls Educational Tour is in Salerno. Coding Girls is a programme promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the United States Embassy in Italy in collaboration with Microsoft, to fight gender stereotypes in the scientific and technological fields.
After the intensive training sessions held at schools in Salerno and province (Severi, Giovanni XXIII, Da Procida, Publio Virgilio Marone, Marconi e Sensale di Nocera Inferiore) and Avellino (Mancini), over 200 young women, guided by American Supercoach Emily Thomforde, Code Educator and Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics (STEAM) Specialist, by FMD coaches and young volunteers form the Friuli Venezia Giulia Italo-American Association, will participate in a hackathon today at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Salerno.
After Salerno, the Coding Girls tour will move on to schools and universities in Naples and Catania. The collaboration with universities is one of the main novelties of this edition, the result of one year of work by the Coding Girls Association, that today has over 25 hubs in Italy. The challenge is also launched to the world of enterprise. In fact, this year, companies will be able to “adopt” a young female student and help her in her studies, thereby contributing to the emergence of new talents, competences and professional profiles.
