A Cloud of Emotions

Studies around the world are aiming to measure the effects of the pandemic on children and adolescents. Research centres and hospitals are devising strategies to help parents face the health emergency, while UNICEF has published a decalogue for minors.

We can “visualise” the increased anxiety of adolescents in the spaces for dialogue created by Project Factor J, promoted with Janssen. Notwithstanding the fact that the lessons are held on-line due to the health emergency, open debates with experts, the testimonies from patient associations and the help by FMD coaches, create a fertile climate for interpersonal debate and the sharing of emotions.

“We shared a very intense and emotional webinar with Marta Tonelli,” explains Valentina Guerrera. “The students participated massively with stories of intense experiences. We perceived that there is a great need to share in the neurosciences area, particularly in relation to emotions.”

What to adolescents feel? With Mentimeter, the students were able to view and share their emotions and moods in real time.

Last Tuesday’s meeting (Feb. 16), which was dedicated to the neurosciences area, was held by Coaches Marta Tonelli (psycholgist) and Valentina Guerrera, with materials and testimonials from Progetto Itaca. Students from various schools from Vercelli to Catania participated: Torricelli - Rome, Liceo Galilei - Catania, Archimede - Messina, La Farina - Messina, Galilei - Settimo Torinese, San Benedetto - Latina, Galilei - Cirè, Liceo Cutelli - Catania, Peano - Monterotondo, Murolico - Messina, Avogadro - Vercelli, Castigliano - Asti.

Factor J, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with Janssen Italia, is the first Italian school curriculum for educating students to develop emotional intelligence, respect and empathy towards individuals suffering from unease of disease. This is an important social operation to stimulate a change in mentality and culture in the new generations.
