Olympic champion Antonella Palmisano accepted the invitation from the Istituto comprensivo di Via Poppea Sabina, in Casal Monastero, and met yesterday with students in primary school year five and first-degree secondary school year 3, carefully respecting all anti-Covid measures.

How did the school convince her? What did they promise her? School director Stefania Forte explains it on the school website: “We spoke about us, about a school that hosts children aged three to fourteen, about how we stride forward with commitment and passion to help students discover their talents and provide them with learning and educational opportunities.

We wrote that we would love to meet with her and her unique pace so that she could tell our students about her passion for sports and her successes, but also how she started again after difficult problems, about her strength and resilience. We promised to show her how we work in the eastern suburbs of Rome and how are students are always at the centre of our plans.

We aim to teach our children about fair play both in sports and life, the importance of discipline to control passions and excesses, constancy and passion … the champion is a perfect example for both our students and all of us!”

Then, in the school’s digital manufacturing lab, created thanks to Project Smart & Heart Rome promoted with the City of Rome, the students designed and produced a plaque to donate to the champion to thank her for the splendid day spent together.

Marco Brocchieri, Coach at our school’s fab lab, sent us some photos of the plaque’s production.

We also like to work “with young children as it is easier to develop strong children than repair broken adults …”
