Carbon footprint expert Massimo Margotti explains the “Thermal Recreation” video art work created by artist Matteo Nasini in collaboration with the Amaldi and Pertini Schools as part of Project "Carbon Footprint through Digital Art. New Didactic Models for Teaching Science." The work was exhibited at the Maxxi during the Media Art Festival 2017.

The project (Nov 2016 - July 2017), financed by MIUR and promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in collaboration with Sapienza University of Rome, aims to develop a didactic product to explain the carbon footprint through digital art.

After studying the carbon footprint phenomenon, the students developed a video that depicts and investigates the visual potential of carbon dioxide. The phenomenon is observed both from an esthetical and ephemeral point of view to create content that can raise public awareness through the media thanks to the popularity of video. Carbon dioxide is filmed thanks to a thermal video camera and observed in various natural and fictional contexts, created and scripted by the students during a workshop.
