The Media Art Festival (Rome, Feb. 25 – March 1) turns the classic festival format upside down. It is based on a widespread artistic production laboratory model.
The Centrale Montemartini Museum will host an exhibition on the collaborative works developed by three artists (Dehors/Audela, Lion e Strangis) and four schools in Rome (Istituto comprensivo Largo Volumnia e i licei B. Croce, G. Cesare e Virgilio)
Artist Lino Strangis, who worked with the Giulio Cesare and Benedetto Croce Schools in Rome held a lab entitled “Audio-visual Production in the Context of Contemporary Art“ in which the students created a 3D animation based on characters from the Pied Piper. The video will also have an original musical score produced by a guitar-playing student and Lino Strangis, who is also a musical composer.
Lino Strangis is 34 years old and lives in Rome. He founded and directs the Centro d’Arti e Ricerche Multimediali Applicate.

Elisa Turco Liveri and Salvatore Insana aka Dehors/Audela hosted a lab entitled “Performing the Daily” that invited 20 students from the Liceo Classico Virgilio to reflect on identity and create a video to investigate the issue.
Elisa and Salvatore met at the Rome Meta-Teatro in 2010. Their projects united theatre, video art and other performance languages in a constant drive for innovation.

Artist Giacomo Lion worked with the youngest students at the Istituto comprensivo Largo Volumnia with a lab entitled “In (to) the space” that involved seven young aspiring artists. Together, they created an original work, entitled “Nothing is Impossible,” a city formed as a sweet, built backwards. It plays music and is mounted on a painting. It’s magical and full of strange creatures.
Giacomo Lion, 29 years old, is a young emerging artist at the Bolgona Accademia di Belle Arti. Together with other artists and engineers, he recently opened the “Piccolo Particolare” Atelier.
Laboratories with schools will continue throughout the Media Art Festival. The Phyrtual Innovation Gym will host a permanent space for media art, every morning from 10 am to 3 pm, with artists holding workshops for school to experiment with new didactic opportunities providing a creative approach to new technology.
