Anti-bullying Policy

The results achieved by Project “Sonet-Bull - Sonet-Bull – Using ICT social networking tools, peer learning and crowdsourcing to train schools to face student bullying” will be presented on September 20 in Athens. “Sonet-Bull” is promoted by four European countries to prevent and contrast bullying in school.

In Italy, the project, managed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, has brought to the implementation of certification for teachers and policies to contrast bullying and cyberbullying in school.

Over 50% of adolescents aged 11-17 are victims of bullying, especially at school and, according to ISTAT data, nearly one adolescent out of every five becomes a repeat victim of bullying. Fifty-two percent of Italian school administrators have had to manage cases of digital bullying, sexting (10%) and on-line enticement (3%). Parents, however, are not very aware of this phenomenon and tend to down play it, according to a recent survey conducted by CENSIS and the Italian Postal and Communications Police.

The objective of Project Sonet-Bull, which is implemented as part of the Erasmus+ Programme, Key Action 2 – Strategic Partnerships and promoted by five partners from four European countries (Belgium, Greece, Ireland and Italy), is to curb the silent bullying epidemic and train school communities with expertise to prevent and contrast this phenomenon.

The project results will be presented on Tuesday, September 20, at the final project conference, which will be held at the Amalia Hotel in Athens and is organised by the “DAISSy” Hellenic Open University Research Group.

The Conference, which is open to all members of the school community (administrators, teachers and parents) and to all those who work to plan and implement educational policies (regional school offices, scientific and didactic orientation consultants, etc.), will illustrate the results achieved by the www.sonetbull.eu platform, a virtual space that allows participants to exchange didactic material and share case studies on bullying episodes and best practices, to develop collaborative strategies to contrast bullying in school.

To participate, please complete the registration form available at http://daissy.eap.gr and e-mail it to info@daissy.eap.gr with subject line [ABP-2016].

In June, moreover, the platform acquired a new educational tool that allows members of the school community to certify the competences they have acquired. In particular, there are two certifications available that have been developed and recognised by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, University of Dublin Anti-bullying Centre, INFOREF Belgium and the Hellenic Open University in Patras, with materials and tests to understand what bullying is, where it occurs, what are its causes and consequences and how to act to contrast it efficiently.

Thanks to the work of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale more than 120 parents, teachers and school administrators have begun this education and collaboration process and two schools participated directly in the pilot phase: CIOSF FP Lazio and the Istituto Comprensivo Piazza Capri in Rome, both of which have implemented new policies to contrast bullying and cyberbullying in school.
