Work and the future

A workshop on interpreting change at the Maserati Institute in Voghera

After a stop at Severi-Correnti in Milan, the ‘Work and Future’ training course arrives at the Maserati High School in Voghera (Pavia), inaugurating a series of eight mornings dedicated to informed career guidance and understanding changes in the world of work.

The first meeting involved 86 students from six fifth-year classes, engaged in an intensive workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., led by trainer and facilitator Marco Rossi, according to the experiential approach that has always characterised the activities of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

The aim of these training courses is to accompany the younger generation in understanding a rapidly changing job market, providing them with tools for interpretation, hybrid skills and critical thinking, in a context where artificial intelligence is not a threat but a technology to be understood and mastered.

Understanding change in order to make informed choices

At the heart of the workshop is the analysis of data from the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, used to dismantle stereotypes and simplified narratives about automation. The message shared with students is clear: the future of work does not pit people against machines, but requires new forms of collaboration between human skills and technologies.

The headmaster of the Maserati Institute, Filippo Dezza, emphasised the strategic value of this collaboration: ‘It is a synergy that I care deeply about, because the frontiers presented to my students are the challenges of tomorrow: artificial intelligence, work in the future and the future in the world of work.’ According to the headmaster, initiatives such as this play a fundamental role in accompanying students through a decisive transition phase: ‘The goal is to give young people as much certainty as possible at such a delicate moment as they leave school and enter the world of work or university.’
 

The students take centre stage

Great attention was also paid to listening to the students, who were asked to reflect on their professional future through group activities, discussion and analysis of real scenarios.

Giovanni, a fifth-year student, describes the experience as follows: ‘I really liked the ideas about the ideal job of the future and the small group activity we did.’ One aspect that was particularly appreciated was the reference to global trends: ‘It was interesting to see the analyses of important international organisations on how the world of work will change.’

A toolbox for navigating the future

The workshop offered students a real toolbox for dealing with uncertainty, working not only on technical skills, but also on cognitive and emotional skills. Among the topics covered were:

  • bio-empathy, to develop awareness and adaptability;
  • survivor bias, to read reality critically;
  • a positive approach to error, inspired by Roger Federer's motto ‘It's only a point’, as a lever for learning and growth.

The Foundation's perspective

Miriam Pintore, project officer, commented:

‘The students' responses were particularly interesting: they showed awareness of the changes taking place and the importance of continuous training to keep pace with technological and social developments. The two sessions were very well attended, interactive and engaging, characterised by a constant exchange of ideas between the trainer and the students, who actively contributed to the debate with questions, reflections and personal points of view.’

‘The students immediately showed strong involvement and a genuine interest in issues related to the jobs of the future,’ adds Marco Rossi. ‘This is particularly because many of the transformations addressed, such as the impact of artificial intelligence, are already part of their daily experience.’

An initiative within the framework of Remid@ and digital facilitation in the region

The session is part of Remid@, the programme that, starting in September 2025, has been strengthened thanks to the activation of the Digital Facilitation Points of the Lombardy Region within the framework of the PNRR – M1C1 Axis 1 Measure 1.7.2 ‘Network of Digital Facilitation Services’.

The Points are coordinated by Ifoa in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS and represent a permanent presence for digital inclusion and skills in the local area. Free services and personalised support are available at the neighbourhood centres of the Municipality of Milan for citizens aged between 16 and 74, together with a wide range of training courses designed to accompany people in the conscious use of technologies, access to digital services and educational and professional choices throughout their lives.
