The Network of Knowledge Volunteers, matured over the past ten years, thanks to the intergenerational learning model that the Fondazione Mondo Digitale has been promoting in Italy and in Europe. Over 40,000 individuals of all ages and nationalities have decided to dedicate part of their time to the free exchange of knowledge in order to promote active life styles, work opportunities and social cohesion through digital tools.
However, as one out of every three Italians has never surfed the web, will digital services ever become universal? Who guarantees the inclusivity of new processes? An interesting day will be dedicated to the protagonists of the grassroots digital transformation process, Knowledge Volunteers and the main public service providers.

The Network of Knowledge Volunteers, which includes students, teachers, elders, craftsmen and makers, was developed thanks to the intergenerational learning model that the Fondazione Mondo Digitale has been promoting in Italy and in Europe. The true exchange of information between younger and elder generations allows the former to acquire soft skills, to develop critical reasoning and come into contact with the job world, whereas the latter learn to keep abreast of the times and learn technological skills for the digital natives. Active citizenship, social cohesion, new employment, human capital are just a few of the keywords for this experience that the FMD has exported around the world.
The Network of Knowledge volunteers will also act as spokespeople for the European “e-Skills for Jobs” Campaign held by the European Commission in 22 countries to promote digital skills amongst the new generations.
