How does Project Starting Back Up Together actually work? Who are the volunteers? What do the elderly need?

Today, we meet Emilio Tripodi, entrepreneur and social media manager, who has always loved technology and innovative models and is always ready to lend a hand at the Comitato di quartiere Giardino in Rome.

Emilio is helping with a couple - Graziella (80) and Vittorio (84) – and is also waiting on a third elder, another eighty-year-old. He writes about them in a fun post published on his Linkedin profile: "The three of them are 244 years old and in a few days they will be my students in a course on digital literacy for over-65s. I will be their knowledge volunteer and help them to address digital issues so that no one, the elder included, are left out of digital innovation.”

“I’m enthusiastic about this course. I am firmly convinced that development and recovery will be reciprocal. They will enjoy my digital knowledge and I will learn from their life experiences.”

Project Starting Back Up Together has been developed in collaboration by the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases (INMI), Regione Lazio and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. Young men and women will work together with local medical offices for the wellbeing and health of citizens aged over 65 during the emergency. The pilot version of the project will begin in Rome’s ASL 3, providing the community with the intergenerational learning model and the Network of Knowledge Volunteers.
