100 Ageless Schools

Piedmont, Lombardy, Lazio, Marche, Abruzzi, Campania and Sardinia are the seven regions running digital literacy for adults pilot courses during the 2010-2011 school year thanks to the intergenerational learning model promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

The courses are held in school computer labs, taught by school children and coordinated by technology teachers. The courses last a total of 30 hours and involve weekly lessons.

The didactic action of the young tutors personalises courses and custom tailors them to the needs of their adult students. This means not only that the lack of homogeneity at the beginning of the course is not a problem, but also transforms it into a feature that enriches didactic practice and stimulates the search for new solutions. It’s a winning model, especially in those contexts that include the transmission of values, dialogue and community ties.

In line with this methodological choice, the training kit includes different instructions for all users (guidelines for the elders, guidelines for the tutors and guidelines for the coordinators. The project naturally reinforces the fundamental ingredients of a 21st century education.

You will find more specific information, region by region, at www.nonnisuinternet.it . In fact, from Como to Salerno, nearly 100 schools are now running pilot courses. For example, the Liceo scientifico Da Vinci in Jesi (Ancona) is running four digital literacy courses to satisfy the high demand.

Here is the poster listing all the participating schools.
