GJC Music is Inclusive

Five of the 109 finalist projects of the fifth edition of the Global Junior Challenge are dedicated to music. In Ferrandina, in the Province of Matera, students translate the lyrics and music into three languages and transcribe them into Braille. In the Roman Tor Pignattara neighbourhood, a school has set the beat to draw students out of their dull afternoons spent in gamerooms and the like. The middle school in Falloppio (Como) has started a literary podcast inserted in the European Charter for Media Literacy. Four schools in Italy, France, England and Bulgaria are collaborating with the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali to emphasise the fact that they are not “just songs”! And 30 schools are involved in a project in which each class must choose its favourite song, learn it, film it and upload it to the project blog. These are performances you don’t want to miss!

On October 7-9, 2009, the Itis Galilei (via Conte Verde 51), will host all the project finlasists and the first international conference on Social Innovation for a Better World in Our Time. Further information and the programme are available at www.gjc.it and socialinnovationconference.org.

Musical Finalist Projects

Besides the exhibition and the intense conference with 30 social innovation experts from around the world, the final event of the GJC includes a musical evening (Oct. 8, 9 pm) entitled “The World in Piazza” hosted by Arianna Ciampoli. The stage in Piazza Vittorio features “inclusive music” by Maestro Sergio Quarta and DDR (Deaf Drums Road), percussionists from the Convitto nazionale sordi of Rome, the Crazy easy rock band of Itis Einstein, a school of excellence for its educational curricula and its innovative use of new technology, Rodolfo Mastrorosa & the Sheeps in the Attic, also from Itis Einstein, and the Chilean musician Hèctor “Titin” Molina. The evening will include jam sessions and musical surprises that promise to fuel a true live musical laboratory.
