Not the Usual School Newspaper

For the students living in Fontaneto d'Agogna (No), a small municipality with 2500 residents, school is the only resource, the only reference point. It also doubles as their social meeting point. The school newspaper, La talpa on line, put together by the students in the first-degree secondary school, assigns “reporters” to cover all the most important stories of the week, including interviews, polls and fiction …

Now in its sixth edition, the newspaper has been constantly improved and has kept up with technological progress. A content management system allows the students to interact dynamically with the network and to update the paper in real time. The paper can also be accessed via mobile devices (http://talpaonline.wirenode.mobi) and a special application for the hard of sight, who can listen to the articles.

In the audio clip, Federica Pellegrino, Project Coordinator, recounts how the idea developed and how the paper was transformed from a print to an on-line format.

The project was also was a finalist at the 4th edition of the International Global Junior Challenge Competition. The students remember their trip to Rome for the final event as a unique experience: “Participating in the GJC 2007 was fantastic. It was a great opportunity to meet other schools, even those from foreign countries”, Federica Pellegrino explains.
