Thanks to Etwinning, The European Programme for Electronic Twinning amongst schools, Mariana Radulescu, Project coordinator for the "Multimedia Mathematical Entertainment for Young Europeans on Holiday" Project, has twinned her school with other eight schools in various countries including Italy, Poland, Spain and England.
The use of the Internet and multimedia material has allowed the students to exchange opinions about culture and share an innovative project to learn about mathematics in a fun and different manner. And the positive results are not just mathematical … they also address intercultural exchange and team building.
The students have also developed a magazine factory: an easy tool that allows them to publish their content on-line and collaborate with other students as happens at a real news desk.
"When I spoke to my students about the magazine factory they were very excited about it. They like the idea of creating multimedia content to learn about mathematics in a fun way," explains Mariana Radulescu.
"They created quizzes and maths problems, while the solutions were sent via e-mail from the international partners. They shared information about their countries through PowerPoint presentations and sent it to their counterparts in real time."
Elisa Amorelli has interviewed Mariana Radulescu about this experience.
The Multimedia Mathematical Entertainment for Young Europeans on Holiday Project is participating in the Global Junior Challenge in the “up to 15 years old” category.
