Digital Minds at Work

"Our students have changed profoundly. Today’s students are no longer those for whom our educational system was designed. They are the first generation that has grown up with our new technologies. They are digital natives and the brains of these natives are probably physically different as a result of the digital inputs they receive as they grow up.”

These thoughts by scholar Marc Prensky lie at the core of the work developed by 15 teachers, coordinated by Maria Blasini, at the Istituto comprensivo G. Marconi di Terni. Starting from the premise that didactics need to be profoundly renewed, this interdisciplinary group of teachers developed a common platform  to hold the many different disciplines they carry out with various partners.

The projects also address international cooperation. Thanks to a complete photo-voltaic kit, which they won at the “Educarsi al futuro 2009” Competition, students have cooperated with ENEA and IFAD, to provide a rural African school with electricity.

The Project On-line Didactics for a Sustainable Project will compete in the Global Junior Challenge in the “up to 15 years old” category
