Digital Bridge: 22-27 May, Lazio Region delegation visits Fontem

Here are the first comments made by Romano Santoro, Schools Coordinator for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, who had already visited Fontem last March with a delegation of Roman schools.

In Cameroon, two months later …

I went back to a place that has become familiar to me and was able to see the many friends I had seen two months ago. As always, our welcome was exceptional: great hospitality and lots of work by Lats technicians who allowed us to make all the necessary visits to check that everything was in order and working.

The Italian delegation was warmly welcomed by the school and local institutions that uphold this significant project. We met many important figures, including the Queen of Fontem, representatives from the primary and secondary school in Lebialem and the Mayor of Menji.

Together with the delegates of the Lazio Region, we also verified that all the equipment was working correctly and visited the hill on which the antennae are mounted. Compared to our first trip to Cameroon, this one was certainly more technical, but nonetheless it was an excellent trip both from a human and a professional point of view.

I also noticed how the twinned Fontem schools work hard to improve their technical and structural situation. Moreover, the Lats organisation is becoming increasingly consolidated on the territory. In the last two months, the network of Italian schools twinned with the schools in Cameroon has also developed significantly. In particular, new schools have been involved, such as the Istituto tecnico industriale Hertz, the liceo scientifico Levi Civita and the Istituto statale G. Caetani.

We also saw all the articles published in local papers with the photo of the Italian delegation that visited Cameroon two months ago and its visit to a local radio station.
