From the Typewriter to the Mouse

High school “in the cellar” during the war, a degree in Mathematics, a long career as a teacher, followed by retirement and a passion for arts and travel with the Treccani encyclopaedia always within reach.

Ms. M. Luisa tells us about her life and her experience with technology without a moment’s respite. She is enthusiastic, but at the same time does not conceal that there are problems, such as memorizing command sequences. What is surprising is the clarity and profound awareness that she is facing a new educational challenge, along with the novelty of the “inverted” relationship with her tutor: Flavia is only eighteen years old.

Ms. Luisa grew acquainted with PCs thanks to the Grandparents on the Internet Project. Every Monday afternoon, she punctually shows up for her course at the Dante Alighieri Lyceum in Rome. At Christmas, she bought herself her first PC and a fast Internet connection. Soon, with the help of Flavia, she will be on-line from home, too. This will allow her to plan her trips and find all the information she needs as well as store photos and memories and prolong the pleasure of her trips.
