There is no official data on the number of child soldiers involved in the conflict in Sierra Leone. Many of them are coerced into fighting, while others demand to be enlisted in the army in the hope of finding safety and nourishment.
The objective of the two projects is ambitious: transform children, victims of ten years of conflict in Sierra Leone, into ambassadors of peace to help other former child soldiers to regain confidence in themselves and the world. How? The arms of peace are the new technologies. It is not only an opportunity for training and work, but a tool to involve the entire local community and help it to rapidly communicate with the rest of the world.
The SWG PoIl, the central charter of the volume entitled In the Eye of the Storm – a new research report on forgotten conflicts produced by Caritas Italia, Famiglia Cristiana and Il Regno – shows that 20% of Italians is incapable of pointing out planetary conflicts that have taken place in the last five years (24 conflicts underway since the beginning of 2008). And young people no even less on this subject: 30% of them can not remember a single war ...
