A website with the click mechanism to contribute to the development of the global e-inclusion movement
The website www.e-inclusionsite.org aims at making a practical contribution to the development of the global e-inclusion movement.
The site includes a declaration on the Digital divide and the click mechanism.
The “click mechanism” both permits funds to be earned for the financing of projects in the poor parts of the world and stimulates every individual to become a “donor”.
The click mechanism works like this: the organization that assumes the role of sponsor places funds at disposal in exchange for visibility on the website (corporate social responsibility). Other branding opportunities are also available: each sponsor donates a Euro for every 20 clicks, or in other words, 5 cents for every click. That means that every time a person clicks or hits the website 5 cents are donated to projects in the poor parts of the world.
The 2002 and 2004 Editions of the Global Junior Challenge both reached a million clicks. In 2002, the funds were used to support the participation of the leaders of the winning projects in a two-week course in entrepreneurship and innovation held at the University of Santa Clara, California. In 2004, the money earned allowed 5,000 Euros to be donated to the winning projects in support of the respective development plans.
The 2007 edition of the GJC scored another one million clicks and the funds made available jumped to € 425,000. This led to an authentic revolution in the concept of the fixed value per click (€ 0.05/click) given that with this value as many as 8 million clicks would have otherwise been required to award the sum of € 425,000 to the 8 winning projects to be launched in the undeveloped world. The solution was simple: we increased the value of each click from € 0.05 to a variable value of approx. € 0.42 (for 1 million clicks) in order to raise the € 425,000 required.
This solution emphasizes the importance of a flexible system for the management of the funds available and the number of clicks collected. For this purpose, from now on, clicks will have variable value as follows: the value of each click will be determined by the ratio between the funds available and the real number of clicks already collected. For this reason, the value in Euros will fluctuate higher or lower. Today we are happy that the value of each click has increased 8 times its original value of € 0.05 and is now worth € 0.42.
