In collaboration with INAIL for the inter-generational learning model and the safety at school, at home and at work

This teaching/training action proposes the inter-generational learning model first successfully used in the Grandparents on the Internet project. Young people, adults, the elderly, and people receiving assistance from INAIL can become experts in preventing the alienation of others through the social and digital inclusion enabled by 12 training courses in four cities in Lazio that reached 1,000 citizens.

In Civita Castellana, Rieti, Tivoli and Viterbo, older school students teach younger students safety and prevention in agricultural, domestic, industrial, and ceramic environments through the use of new technologies and meetings with INAIL experts. The courses were conducted with different emphasis at different locations.

  • Civita Castellana: safety and accident prevention in ceramics laboratories
  • Viterbo: safety and accident prevention in agriculture
  • Rieti: safety and accident prevention in domestic and hotel environments
  • Tivoli: safety and accident prevention in technical-industrial environments

Lessons were held in the schools’ multimedia classrooms. The first part of the course was dedicated to the computer basics, navigating the web, and web tools (e-mail, social network, Skype, etc.). The second part was dedicated to safety and accident prevention in four different environments through the use of new technologies.
Course participants were provided with the manuals for Grandparents on the Internet and the e-Care Family didactic kit consisting of four booklets and 10 video lessons for interactive learning.

Most elderly people are still unskilled in obtaining the advantages offered by the digital era, but thanks to the project’s actions and teaching contributions from the young, participants can discover “Aging contentedly in the information society” and remain active longer despite impairments in their autonomy.

The topic of safety that permeates the entire project ensures greater public awareness while naturally informing even foreign resident families especially in the areas most at risk where reports of accidents to immigrant workers in the workplace happen to be increasing.
