Growing Up During the Emergency

Growing Up During the Emergency

Mental health is a precious resource. “There is no health without mental health” has been the motto of the WHO for over a decade. From this point of view, everyone agrees that the current Covid-19 emergency will have long-term consequences. Even before, mental issues were on the marked rise, and depression is the first cause of worldwide disabilities, with a strong impact on women, youth and elders. Indeed, it increased by 18% between 2005 and 2015.

For the World Day of Mental Health (Oct. 10, 2020) students and professors will exchange views with experts on the issue of depression and the growing anxiety of adolescents to allow prevention to be a key tool to guarantee everyone’s right to mental health.

The on-line event, which will be held on October 8 at 10 am on the GoToWebinar Platform, will include special guests, and notably Paolo Crepet, psychiatrist, sociologist and educator, as well as patients from the Palermo Club Itaca.

The meeting will be opened by Ruggero Razza, Regional Health Councillor.

The initiative is organised as part of Project Factor J (fattorej.org), promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with Janssen Italia, a Johnson&Johnson Group pharmaceutical company, to educate one hundred thousand young men and women on inclusion, diversity and empathy for patients. The project includes six regional events dedicated to different therapeutical areas addressed by the project. The first addresses Neurosciences in Sicily.

In his last work, "Vulnerabili" (Mondadori, 2020), Paolo Crepet analyses what happened during the lockdown and its gradual end, as well as what awaits us with the constant threat of the virus. And he concentrates on the need for change...
