On June 20, 2012, as part of the World Refugee Day promoted by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), the Fondazione Mondo Digitale has organized a meeting on intercultural cooperation as part of the “International Creativity Fair” Project promoted by Città Educativa and Roma Capitale. Simultaneously, the third edition of the “I’m There” football match will be held between young refugees, Roman schools and non-profit organisations and a stand of multi-ethnic spectators.
Wednesday 20 June 2012 at 3 pm at the Istituto Santa Maria Sports Centre in Rome (via Matteo Boiardo 28) – the third sector meets school. Information stands will be set up for students, parents, teachers, and school administrators to raise the awareness of the younger generations on fair life styles, active citizenship and aware use of new technologies. Participating associations include: VIS – Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo, Idos - Caritas Migrantes Research and Study Centre, Esquilino Football Club.
The third edition of the solidarity “I’m There” football match will also be held on the same day. The match is promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to celebrate World Refugee Day, an annual appointment declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations that for over ten years has been raising awareness about the often forgotten condition of this particular category of migrants. Students from four Roman Schools - LSS “Democrito”, ITC “V. Bachelet”, ITIS “B. Pascal” e IIS “V. Gassman” – and the representatives of various associations will compete against a team of young refugees, including a few guests of the Centro Enea in Rome. They will be greeted and cheered on by a multi-ethnic audience of children from the “Polo Intermundia” Project and a team of young Roman cheerleaders.
Radio Sapienza, the event media partner, will comment the game from the sidelines. Supporters for the teams will include the Liberi Nantes Football Club, the first football team composed of forced migration victims and Shoot For Change, a platform that unites the initiatives of photographers, artists and designers to contributed to improve the lives of all.
Photo reporter Fabrizio Loiacono will also follow the match, as will the young fans from the Scuola di Calcio Santa Maria-Visnova and the Esquilino Football Club, who will compete in a mini-match to bring the young closer to borderless sports.
