What are the Ingredients of Social Innovation?

 

Professor Molina has developed research and analysis tools including the diamond of alignment, the evolving business plan, evolving bottom-up road mapping, real-time evaluation methodology and dynamic strategy mapping. Now, Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, once again launches social innovation as a strategic operation model for promoting an inclusive knowledge society in Italy.

 

What, however, is social innovation? Who reaps its benefits? What does innovation mean, in this case?

 

Professor Molina advanced two concrete examples at the Culture of Innovation and participation Meeting held in Rome, Italy on December 10 at the Associazione Civita: Grandparents on the Internet, the digital literacy project for adults, and the experience of the Internet Café at the Centro Enea Rome Refugee Centre.

Both of these initiatives involve various actors (public, private profit, NGOs, etc.) and the direct benefits are aimed at particular population segments. In reality, however, the virtuous dynamics of these projects involve the entire community.
