Volunteers in Training

Knowledge volunteer training courses are already underway for Project Starting Back Up Together, developed in collaboration by the Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases (INMI), Regione Lazio and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. Young men and women will work together with local medical offices for the wellbeing and health of citizens aged over 65 during the emergency. The pilot version of the project will begin in Rome’s ASL 3, providing the community with the intergenerational learning model and the Network of Knowledge Volunteers.

The first trained volunteers will be seniors who have previous experiences (civil defence programme, volunteer database, scouts, etc.) in associations or at university. FMD Scientific Director Alfonso Molina participated in the introductory module to present the mission of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the intergenerational learning model. The senior volunteers will be operational starting during the second week of February and will man the first help desks for elders.

Today, training begins for junior volunteers. The first webinar will be held for 15 students at the Istituto S. Giuseppe de Merode in Rome (4-6 pm). These are third year students coordinated by Prof. Miriam Rondinella. They will explore the course log, the main issues addressed by the programme and how to develop efficient relations with over-65s to help them learn more about digital health services.

Upcoming Meetings

February 9 (4-6): 35 students from the Via dei Papareschi, Kant and Plauto High Schools

February 10 (4-6): 50 students from the Liceo Russell.

The young knowledge volunteers will help the over-65s signing up for the project, mostly elders from social centres and trade associations such as Anteas.

The project involves:

  • Over-65s
  • Volunteers
  • Family Doctors
