Videoconference from the Desert

Notwithstanding various interruptions in the Internet service caused by the bad weather conditions in the Wilaya of Aaiun, the audience carefully listened to all the presentations – more than an hour’s worth of discussions, chats, voice and images.

What surprised the speakers was the unusual composition of the event participants. In fact, the cause of the Saharawi People did not attract scholars, experts or politicians, but an entire crowd of elementary school children and a delegation of high school students. From the beginning of the school year, these children have been studying the situation of the Saharawi refugees living in tents in the desert near Tindour in Algeria. The videoconference was their first opportunity to communicate with them directly!

Digital Bridge the e-inclusion project in support of the Saharawi, financed by the Regione Lazio, coordinated by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and implemented in situ by the Bambini+Diritti Association, has provided the Wilaya in Aaiun with technological infrastructures, technical assistance, didactic plans and professional training. Now, it’s the schools that have to become witnesses and safeguard cooperation.

Videoconference Opening Address: Annalisa Colaiacomo, Deputy Headmaster of the Circolo Didattico Papa Woytila.
